The paintings and drawings of Arie van Geest (1948, Maasland; lives in Rotterdam) are decidedly lyrical in character. He portrays idyllic, fairy-tale scenes which also contain elements of malevolence. In "Marguerita disappears" the toy dog in the foreground is shot full of arrows. Van Geest's figures are always virginal, nymph-like girls generating an almost decadent erotic atmosphere.
